Design and Manufacture – Instrumented Models
With a history dating back to 1956, the ARA model Design and Manufacture Department has vast experience in the design and manufacture of wind tunnel models, specialist test rigs and strain-gauge balances for wind tunnels at ARA and external agencies.
ARA produces models for testing in low-speed, transonic, supersonic and hypersonic wind tunnels in Europe, America and Asia and the two largest cryogenic facilities in the world, namely the European Transonic Wind Tunnel (ETW) in Germany and the NASA National Transonic Facility (NTF) in America.
- Key aim is to minimise the cycle time between customers design freeze and delivery of wind tunnel data.
- Worldwide reputation for producing high quality models.
- Accuracy to very demanding levels of finish.
- Combining expertise and experience in design, manufacture and aerodynamic testing.
Since 2012 ARA has designed and developed, with a network of suppliers, new rigs for the ARA Transonic Wind Tunnel under the auspices of the UK Aerodynamics Centre. Some of these rigs are unique to the ARA tunnel and the design and manufacture experience gained from these projects leads to an improved product for all our customers.
